Forum de Femme
Hidden memories of women’s history
Women have carried life, nursed, fed, clothed and educated all of humanity. They have rarely ruled over men. But far too often, they have had to endure everything.

Why a Forum de Femme?
More than a museum, the Forum de Femme was born of a deep conviction: the history of civilizations cannot be told without recognizing the fundamental role of women.
They are the procreators of humanity; they carried, nursed, raised and fed every child.
Like the Roman forum, the Forum de Femme is an open space where past, present and future meet.

Woman, architect of beauty
Behind every thread, every embroidery, there are women’s hands. Mothers and daughters, grandmothers, aunts and sisters have passed on the gestures of spinning, weaving and dyeing for millennia.
Everyday clothes, sacred garments, wedding attire and ceremonial jewelry are the fruit of this unbroken chain of women. In history, thread is not merely a trade: it belongs to the living memory of humanity.
The Forum de Femme pays tribute to this invisible but essential transmission.

Seven million years, in five movements

I. Carrying life
the first mother, the home, birth.

II. Shaping the world
terracotta, the hands that feed, the thread.

III. Passing on civilizations
the goddesses, marriage, clothing and adornment.

IV. Recognizing women
the invisible work, the abuses, monotheism, the Great Ladies, emancipation.

V. Honoring living women
the 21st century.
The film
The museum’s film tells this journey in the first person, that of its founder. It runs 27 minutes and is available in French, English and Arabic, with a full transcript. Watch the film
Trace, gesture, memory
What women have passed on
Civilizations have succeeded one another, but the gestures have remained and are still handed down. Through time, women have ensured the continuity of essential knowledge by embedding it in practices and cultural forms.
Learned and repeated, these gestures have shaped shared customs and ways of doing that bind individuals to their community. This transmission, inscribed in matter and experience, still inhabits human societies.
“To pass on is to resist oblivion.”

The founder
Azeddine Sedrati
A Moroccan veterinarian and horse breeder, Azeddine Sedrati has devoted twenty-five years to the memory of women. In 1994, in Tunis, he exhibited five paintings from each country of the Maghreb: the start of a path that led him to create the Forum de Femme.
“I did not know that on that day, I was opening a door I would never close again.”
Today he carries this project in Marrakech with the Dar Nissa Foundation, for an opening in 2028. His story is the thread of the museum’s film.

Dar Nissa Foundation
The Dar Nissa Foundation is dedicated to creating the Forum de Femme in Marrakech. It holds a collection of more than 3,000 works: traditional Maghrebi, Asian and Arab costumes, jewelry, Orientalist paintings and old photographs.
